THE NATURE OF ANGELS AND WHY FELIX MANALO IS NOT AN ANGEL

Here's another comments from the same user by the name Silent Crusader at Monk's Hobbit blog:

Nearly all people have heard of angels or are at least familiar with pictures of them in popular culture. Yet, few perhaps, actually understand the nature of these creatures and their relationship with humans.

WHAT EXACTLY IS AN ANGEL?

The word “angel” means messenger. Truly, this reflects the office of the angels and their relationship with humans. As such, it should be realized that the word “angel” does not properly describe their nature; it only describes what they do in relationship to us.

Angels are more properly referred to as “spirits”, for this is what they are. An angel is an incorporeal spirit of great power and intelligence. They are at the very pinnacle of the order of God’s creation. Their spiritual nature is closest to the image of God, and thus they have great power and intellect (although not necessarily charity).

It is important to realize that an angel is not a dead human; in other words we do not become angels when we die and pass on to heaven.

Angels are as different from humans as animals are from us. Humans are endowed with sentience, conscience and a measure of intellect which divides us from the animals. In a similar manner, angels are endowed with a power and intellect not proper to man. In a sense, man is a composite creation which blends the nature of the animal (corporeality, instinct, passions) with the nature of the angels (free will, intellect, conscience, sentience and rationality).

****Thus the angels are not humans, and humans can never become one.***

When they choose to communicate with humans it is always by the will of God, and they serve as messengers from God. Angels can manifest themselves in corporeal form when they wish to communicate with us.

So how can Felix Manalo become an angel… jumping from one religion to another to become a self-declared angel later on. An angel never dies as human…. Felix died and not even a single miracle known to anyone outside INC. Only God can give instruction to HIS angels to communicate with humans as in the case of Blessed Mary during the Annunciation. There were more biblical and scriptural proof of angels communicating with human and even on human forms but only for a while not from childbirth up to the time he dies. Felix’ self-proclamation only existed in his human mind and definitely not from God.

THE NATURE OF THE ANGELS

Angels had three primary roles given to them by God. Their first role was to worship God. The blessed angels of heaven, which were not corrupted by Satan in the beginning of time, are able to gaze on the revealed nature of God and contemplate the mystery of the Trinity. In this way, the formidable intellect of the angels allows them to dwell on the infinite glory and goodness of God. As the psalmist records, “Adore Him, all you His angels” (Ps 96:7). This is the bliss of heaven; a bliss which sharpens the mind and brings eternal tranquility and charity.

The second major role of the angels is to implement the will of God. God uses the angels to order creation, implement the laws of the physical world and aid in the spiritual deliverance of man. The psalms records, “Bless the Lord, all ye His angels: you that are mighty in strength and execute His word, harkening to the voice of his orders” (Ps 102:20). There are many occasions in Scripture which record the implementation of God’s will in the physical world by the angels (Exo 14:19, Mt 13:49, 1 Chron 21). Additionally, they also petition God with prayers on our behalf (Tob 12:12, Mt 18:10). It is believed that God assigns a guardian angel to each person.

So did Felix tell us that he has no angel guardian because he was already an angel from his birth? Where in the bible says that an angel can be born and grew up to become adult, grew old, travelled, studied GOD using the bible and scriptures joining other religions to make sure his interpretations and translations of the sacred text are correct according to God’s will?

On our behalf, the angel prays for us and protects us from the evil angels (Mt 18:10). God’s use of the angels to implement his will is appropriate to a good God who values a familial relationship of charity between angels and men.

Finally, angels serve as messengers from God. Scripture records that the prophets received messages from God through angels. Indeed, the Virgin Mary received the good news of salvation from the angel Gabriel. Many of the prophets such as Ezekiel, Daniel, Abraham, and Isaiah received prophecies from the angels (Ezekiel 1:4, Daniel 7:16,.Genesis 22:11, Isaiah 6:2).

ORDERING OF THE ANGELS

There are several orders of angels like Cherubim, etc and the last order of angels is most familiar to man. This order is comprised of the Principalities, Archangels and Angels. Principalities are the leaders of the last order, and direct the actual implementation of God’s will. Archangels and angels actually carry out and execute what is to be done. This is why angels (such as Gabriel and Raphael) are the choir sent to communicate with man.

It is highly questionable for Felix to declare himself an angel just because he found a verse in the bible that would fit to his plan of becoming one so that he could maintain his supremacy among INC? And why did this angel wants to save members of INC only? Why not all humanity? Then why did this angel declared that Jesus is just another human and that HE is not GOD of the Holy Trinity?

IF INDEED FELIX IS AN ANGEL, THEN HOW SURE ARE WE THAT HE IS NOT ONE OF THE FALLEN ANGELS THAT CONTINUE TO LIE AND AS A LIAR DECEIVES HIS OWN FOLLOWERS? IF HE IS A FALLEN ANGEL, THEN WHERE DOES HE IS LEADING HIS BLIND FOLLOWERS?

I OBSERVED ONE OF THE GIFTS GIVING CELEBRATIONS DONE AT TIMES SQUARE IN NEW YORK THIS YEAR 2013 FOR THE SO-CALLED POOR PEOPLE. IT WAS WITH A LOT OF FUNFARE (VANITY) FOR THE WORLD TO SEE. IN CONTRAST THERE ARE GROUPS IN NEW YORK THAT DISTRIBUTES FOODS AND CLOTHING TO POOR AND HOMELESS ON A WEEKLY BASIS SILENTLY WITH NO MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENT AND MOST OF ALL NOT IN TIMES SQUARES SO THE WORLD CAN SEE. JESUS’ WAY IS HUMILITY. HE ONES SAID DON’T LET YOUR LEFT HAND SEE WHAT YOUR RIGHT HAND IS DOING. WHEN JESUS STARTED HIS MINISTRY, HE CHOSE TO WALK FOR 3 YEARS ON BARE FOOT. AND SURELY ANNOUNCING TO THE WORLD IN THE CENTER OF NEW YORK TIMES SQUARE THAT THEY ARE DISTRIBUTING GOODIES TO POOR PEOPLE IS SURELY NOT JESUS’ WAY. PRIDE IS NEVER PART OF JESUS’ MINISTRY.

Wake up brothers in sisters, let’s apostolate the world only in humility not with VANITY and FANFARE.

GOODNESS OF THE ANGELS

Moral goodness is not something that is dependent on the nature of a created being. The nature of a creature is the innate powers and potential given to a being by God. Because free will is a necessary part of the nature of man and angel, there exists the possibility of sin. Angels can, and have, sinned. Indeed, the original creation of God was perfect and moral in every possible way.

Unfortunately, Satan (for reasons we can only speculate on) a good Cherubim, decided to selfishly seek and increase his own glory and power beyond the limits set by God. When he refused to submit to the will of God he committed the first of all sins: the sin of pride. When Satan sinned in pride, he convinced many other angels to follow him into submission and evil. For this sin, he was expelled from heaven forever and was denied the immediate vision of God.

The good angels who resisted Satan’s temptations were admitted into the immediate vision of God and became firmly rooted in virtue. For this reason, the angels who resisted the first sin are no longer capable of sinning; they have made a permanent and indelible choice to submit to the love of God. The fallen angels, or devils as we now call them, are likewise permanently rooted in sin. It is not possible for a devil to repent of his sins.

This fact partially explains why belief in angels is a primary dogma of Catholic faith. Without belief in angels, there is no possible explanation for the existence of evil in the good creation of God.

I am Just curious why not one INC member or ministro makes comment on my comments here. Is it because I do not wish to engage in useless debate but simply sighting my personal thoughts of what is truth and lies? Yes I am not a debater and will never be. If I see error on any comments, I will surely point them out.

God Bless and let’s pray for everyone’s salvation especially those with hardened hearts, blind followers of Satan (satanist, Illuminati, bohemian grove club members, free-masons, prostitutes, drug addicts, criminals, idolaters, fornicators, liars, adulterers, homosexual sinners, agnostics, atheist, anti-Christ, Babylonians, and anyone who is against Christ) and lastly for the souls in purgatory especially those who have no one to pray for them). I also for those other denominations for Christ that they may continue to serve Jesus in utmost humility.

SON INHERITS THE PAPAL THRONE OF INC:

Very valuable comments from a user by the name Silent Crusader for members of the INC™ of Manalo at Monk's Hobbit blog:

This facts about INC is quite interesting –

SON INHERITS THE PAPAL THRONE OF INC:

Erano G. Manalo (Ka Erdy) is the fifth child of INC founder Felix Y. Manalo. He was born on January 2, 1925. He is now 80 years old. He went to college to get a degree in law but left to become a minister in his dad’s religion. His dad worked out his promotion to be the general treasurer of the church. He has never had a lack of money. The bank accounts have been flowing over by the billions of pesos. The income of Ka Erdy is a top secret.

Because he wanted the flow of information from the Church to the membership and the world to be under tight censorship, Erano was placed in the hierarchy of the church magazine Pasugo. Nothing would be written about or released concerning doctrine, faith, and practice and his father that he did not approve. Everything written in Pasugo about Felix Manalo had to pass the desk of Erano.

When it was written in Pasugo in 1976 that his father was the “seed of Abraham”, Erano approved it. It was this “seed of Abraham” doctrine that was used to claim Felix Manalo was Jesus in another form. Yes, Felix Manalo did claim he was the messiah according to Philippine court records. The INC now try to cover this up and sanitize his life history to expunge this stunning falsehood.

Church members and ministers join in choir when someone opposes their founder, his false doctrines, and their use of every perverted translation they can find to substantiate their claims. They sing their church is under attack and must stand firm and be faithful to “Brother Felix” and the doctrines of the Iglesia Ni Cristo. It is safe to say the rank and file of INC now have the persecuted syndrome and feel they must suffer martyrdom and not forsake the teachings of their founder.

COMMENT:
So Erano Manalo approved the concept that his father was the “seed of Abraham”. Wow! This is surprisingly amazing. And that Felix was the messiah. So why then did he not introduce himself to Israel so the Jews can finally rest in waiting for their messiah. But then again, he will not be accepted because the Jews expects a King that will come down to destroy the Romans but this is too late now…Felix is neither a king nor he can travel back to the time of the Roman occupation of the Jews. From being an angel (messenger) to becoming the messiah….this is truly amazing. According to the Philippine court records, Felix Manalo did really claim he was the messiah. And I think this is the reason why INC has been named Iglesia Ni Cristo or Manalo. It doesn’t really matter since Felix and Jesus is one. If Jesus is actually God, so Felix was God. He died though and never resurrected. If secretly he did ascended so is he now sitting at the right hand of the Father? I don’t know what to say at this point. Something is very very wrong here. And the INC tried to cover and sanitize this biggest lie in the history of INC. Some people had to wake up from this dream.

The heir of the papal throne of INC attacked the deity of Jesus but had no backbone to attack the falsehoods of his own father. Thus, he put his father above Christ! We can be sure the papal power to continue the same errors and heresy will fall to one of Erano’s sons when he becomes ill and unable to function or dies. I predict this will likely be Eduardo Manalo and he has probably already been secretly tapped for the throne. The central administration has no one among them worthy enough to inherit the messiahship throne. The blood lineage of the Manalo messias seed will be enforced you can count on that. Erano Manalo can boast of several things during his reign. He continued the Theodotus-Islamic doctrine that Jesus was just a man and not God. He can boast his methods caused membership and wealth increase for INC. He can take credit for the many, many, new rapture-designed buildings that were erected. He must be proud of the fact he holds great political power via the Church membership and by his coercion INC has risen to the level of a Philippine shadow government.

WHAT DO DEIST BELIEVE ABOUT JESUS AND GOD?

Deist do not view God as an entity in human form. They deny Jesus was God!

Deist view Jesus as a philosopher, rabbi, teacher and healer, but not as the Son of God.

Anyone who denies Jesus was God is of the Deist religion and Antichrist. The Iglesia Ni Cristo church denies Jesus was God therefore it is Deist. According to its founder, Jesus was no more God then he was. This is Deist and Islamic talk! Manalo’s doctrine makes himself a Son of God on the same level as Jesus. Any and all Ministers, Pastors, Evangelist, and other preachers of the Manalo Deist religion are Antichrist since they all deny Jesus was God. Is Jesus God? Read Revelation 1:8 and check out the words of Jesus himself.

The translation of this verse is as follows: I AM Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord God, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

In this one text Jesus subscribes to himself the same titles used of God in the Old Testament. If Jesus is not God, he lied when he claimed to John to be the Lord God. Jesus claims he is the LORD GOD, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the ALMIGHTY! For the Iglesia Ni Cristo group to claim Jesus was only a man is to call Jesus a liar. Who do we believe, the Iglesia Ni Cristo and the central administration or Jesus?

Erano wrote a 64 page booklet attacking the deity of Christ, “Christ-God: Investigated-False”. Anyone deceived by this book is brainwashed. The truth is, Manalo stole his anti-Jesus-God arguments from Islamic propaganda. The arguments of Erano Manalo in his writing against the deity of Jesus are right out of Islam-Jesus 101. Both Manalo’s stole the Islamic arguments that exalt Allah and make Jesus just one of several prophets.

Iglesia Ni Cristo calls God the “Father” but if pressed will admit the Father’s name is also Allah! Iglesia Ni Cristo ministers are teaching a form of Islam-Christianity to its members. All this is lacking is to call the Father Allah and say Mohammed is his prophet and they are Islamic! The conversion to Islam is not that far off and can happen overnight at any instant. If the Philippine government ever suppresses INC you can expect INC to court Islamic favor and some form of unity and immediate religious war could break out right in the nation’s capitol! In fact, in court pleadings before the Honorable Ofelia Marquez, Branch 216, Quezon City, Manila, Philippines on May 24, 2005; the lawyer for INC claims if the book: “POWER AND THE GLORY: THE CULT OF MANALO” is published, it will trigger unrest and possible violance throughout the 7000 islands of the Republic. This is a threat that if anyone makes INC, the central administration, and the members mad; they will turn to the streets and burn the nation down, which may include the killing of a lot of people! The proper response would have been for INC to publish a rebuttal, not to threaten the nation with riots, violence, and possible killing. INC has become a dangerous militant religion and the claims of the INC lawyer proves it.

One identification of a true church is the kind of preachers or teachers she has. How can shepherd takes care of the flock if he’s the first to violate God’s commands. He must practice what he preaches. And please don’t give me that usual common excuse again that they’re only humans.

SO LET’S LISTEN to Erano Manalo in his own very words about his own ministros (mang gagawa)…please listen in entirety. This is not speculation. It is the very word of INC’s papal who has described his own workers. http://youtu.be/ThKY1vC2ilk

Judge yourself… what I stated earlier: “The sin of few or many is not the sin of the church” is correct.
I wrote “few or many”…. not few only….

I would never deny that erring priest that are being reported are growing and we can speculate there are more unreported but unless they are proven we cannot judge.

So let’s watch this about the INC’s messiah or angel…http://youtu.be/Etl0JD27ChA
If this case was true then he is neither a messiah nor angel…If he is an angel then he belonged to the fallen angel group of Satan.

I’d be happy if you (INC) can dispute these two videos.

Malaysian Muslims ask Vatican to recall envoy over use of “Allah”

Islamists are now the Catholic Church' nemesis in building peace among believers. Their ignorance of history is blissful.  For the information of those who don't know, Arab Christians have used the word 'allah' (الله) long way even before the advent of Islam itself.  In pre-Islamic Makkah Muhammad's father (Islam's prophet) was named 'Abdullah' (عبد الله) --'Slave of God' or 'Servant of God -- which suggests that pre-Islamic Makkah had used the same word even before Islam came to be.

BANGKOK, Thailand (RNS) The Vatican’s first envoy to Muslim-majority Malaysia should quit and go back to Rome, angry Malaysian Islamists said after the Roman Catholic cleric said Christians may use the Arabic word “Allah” to describe God.

In an escalating confrontation, dozens of Islamists marched to the Vatican’s mission in Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, after prayers at a mosque on Friday (July 19), and presented a 670-word memorandum demanding his recall.

The troubled envoy, Archbishop Joseph Marino of Alabama, arrived in the Southeast Asian country in April.

Marino’s problems began after his interview with reporters on July 11, when he spoke about the Christian Federation of Malaysia’s controversial decision to call God “Allah,” the Arabic word for God.

“It seems to be quite logical and acceptable,” Marino said in the interview.

Some Muslims complained, and the Malaysian government summoned Marino on July 16 to discuss the issue.

Hours later, Marino responded that his interview was “never intended as an attempt to intrude into the internal affairs of the country.”

Marino’s statement, however, inflamed Islamists who see the use of the word “Allah” as a bold attempt to convert Muslims to Christianity.

“The Vatican Envoy’s statement is reflective of the Vatican City’s sheer ignorance of the special place given to Islam as the religion” of Malaysia, the protest memorandum said.

The Islamists were supported by hard-line organizations trying to increase the use of Shariah law in Malaysia.

“Joseph Marino is an enemy of the state,” said Imbrahim Ali, president of Peraksa, a conservative, nongovernmental organization, according to Agence France-Presse. “His actions have strained race relations in the country.”

Muslims, who are mostly ethnic Malay, comprise 60 percent of Malaysia’s nearly 30 million residents.

Christians number about 9 percent — mostly ethnic Chinese and Indians — including 800,000 Catholics.

The Islamists also demanded “an official apology from Vatican City to the people of Malaysia for such an offensive statement.”

The controversy erupted in 2009 when some Christians in Malaysia published Bibles and other religious literature translated into the country’s official language, Bahasa Malaysia.

The Christians translated “God” as “Allah.”

Malaysian Islamists, however, said Christians were using the word Allah to convert Muslims, which is a crime in Malaysia.

The government then banned publications using the word Allah to identify a non-Muslim God.

A local Catholic newspaper, The Herald, sued.

The High Court ruled against the government and legalized the word Allah for use by non-Muslims.

Soon after, several churches in Malaysia were firebombed, and the government appealed the case, which is currently pending.

Non-Muslim pupils forced to eat in bathroom because of Ramadan

The act of segregation is condemned by politicians and Muslims. Our "religion does not dictate this," Muslim woman says. However, in many Islamic countries, non-Muslims are required to respect the eating ban during the period of fasting.

Kuala Lumpur (AsiaNews/Agencies also read here) - Non-Muslim children in a Malaysian primary school were forced to have lunch in the facility's change room whilst their classmates fasted during Ramadan. Pictures of ethnic Chinese and Indian (usually Christian or Hindu) children were posted on the internet by one of the mothers, Guneswari Kelly, causing an uproar among politicians and Muslims opposed to unhygienic segregation.

On her Facebook page, Kelly Guneswari wrote that staff at the Sri Pristana School, in suburban Kuala Lumpur, told non-Muslim children to eat in the school's bathroom and not in the canteen. "Is this fair? Can [a national school] treat [non-Muslim pupils] like this" during Ramadan?

After being informed, Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin ordered an investigation into the matter, saying he would take action.

School officials have not released any statement, but Jehan Bakar, a Muslim woman lawyer and mother of two, said she was "horrified" by the segregation of non-Muslim children. Our "religion does not dictate this," she insisted.

In fact Islam does not ask non-Muslims to fast or hide, but in many Islamic countries, Christians, Hindus or people of other religions are asked (and sometimes forced) not to eat in public or are not allow to eat at all during the fasting period, which runs from dawn to dusk.

In Malaysia, there are often signs of impatience towards Islamic rules that are often applied in a very restrictive way. Recently, a Chinese couple was accused of sedition for posting online a Ramadan greeting that showed them eating pork, which is forbidden in Islam.

In 2010, the principal of a secondary school in the state of Kedah accused ethnic Chinese students of being insensitive towards their Muslim classmates because they ate at school during Ramadan, telling them to "return to China" if they could not respect the culture of other ethnic groups.

Was Peter the "Other Man" in Rome? – A Mystery in St Paul’s Romans

From Dr. Taylor Marshall's Canterbury Tales

Peter Crucified Upside Down in Rome
Most Protestant scholars contest that Catholic claim that Saint Peter was the first bishop (pope) of Rome. They go so far as to say that Peter never even visited Rome.
As we prepare to celebrate the feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul (June 29), we should take a look at this objection.
I argue that there is plenty of evidence of Peter’s presence not only in tradition, but also in Sacred Scripture.

I refer to the mystery of the “another man” in Saint Paul’s Epistle to the Romans.

[the following is a free selection from my book The Eternal City: Rome and the Origins of Catholicism]

As one reads the thirteenth chapter of Romans, one cannot help but see a concern in Paul’s mind about the tenuous state of the Roman Church in relationship to Imperial Rome. Once already the emperor had exiled all Jews from the city on account of “Chrestus” – a Roman mispronunciation of “Christus.” Perhaps Paul was worried that the current emperor Nero Caesar might hear rumors that “Chrestus” was once again stirring up rebellion in the imperial city—this time not only among the Jews but also among the non-Jews. Paul therefore exhorts the Roman Christians to “be subject to the governing authorities,” and to honor the Roman Caesar in things pertaining to civic duties (Rom 13:3-7).

It may seem rather odd that Paul does not mention Peter’s name in his Epistle to the Romans. Protestant scholars are quick to use Peter’s absence in the Epistle to prove Peter’s absence in Rome, with an argument such as this: “If Peter had practiced his apostolic ministry in Rome, Paul would have referred to it. Since Paul did not mention Peter’s apostolic ministry in Rome, it must be the case that Peter had not been in Rome.”

Contrary to this claim let me affirm that Paul did in fact refer to Peter in his Epistle to the Romans though not by name. This should not come as a surprise to us because Paul elsewhere avoids the proper names of important people. This is the “principle of anonymity”. The New Testament authors show a general reluctance to name names concerning certain subjects.

The general pattern found in the New Testament is that if anything relates to the Roman Empire, do not be specific. This was a way to protect the Church from imperial persecution. Thus Rome is referred to as “Babylon” and “another place” and “the Beast”. For example, in his Epistle to the Romans, the Apostle refers to Nero Caesar a number of times, but not once does he refer to Nero by name. Paul refers to Nero repeatedly as an “authority”, “ruler”, “servant of God”, and even as a “minister” (Rom 13:2-6). Anyone who knows the diabolical character of Nero, may be surprised by these flattering titles, but there is no doubt that Paul speaks of the current emperor of his day—Nero Caesar.

In a similar fashion, Paul refers to Peter as the mysterious and apostolic “other man” of the Church of Rome. Paul states that “another man” has already laid the foundation of the Church of Rome. Paul further explains why he has not yet come to Rome: “I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on the foundation of another man” (Rom 15:20-21). The implication is that Paul has no need to come to Rome because “another man” has already built the foundation of the Church in Rome.

The sufficiency of this other man’s Apostleship is manifest by Paul’s doctrine that the Apostles are the only men capable of laying the foundation of the Church in Christ (Gal 1:11-24). Thus, Paul had no desire to establish the Church in Rome because he saw the Church of Rome as perfectly established by “another man” with Apostolic credentials.

Tradition identifies this “other man” as none other than Peter himself. This would explain the rather obscure reason given by Paul for his being “hindered very much” from coming to Rome (Rom 15:22). Paul was aware of his controversial status in the Church. If the Jews of Rome were rioting because of Peter, Paul would have driven them into hysteria! It would not have been appropriate for Paul to go to Rome. Paul’s affirmation that Rome is fully established under Apostolic authority is seen in his desire merely “to pass through” Rome and “enjoy your company for a little” as he travels to Spain (Rom 15:24).

“PANGINOON DIYOS” at “PANGINOON HESUCRISTO”

Comments from Monk's Hobbit

On this video – The End of the World - Judgment Day - Ang Paghuhukom a lot of times “Panginoon Diyos” have been mentioned several times likewise for “Panginoon Hesucristo” and been shown as text you can read on the video.

As you can read – Panginoon means Lord which is actually God if the subject is about religion. And yet to INC Jesus is a man-mediator only sent by God. But they kept saying that Jesus is Lord which is also God.

Okay, as we all believed, just as INC said the second coming of Jesus will be the time of the final judgement which shall be the end of days for both the living and the dead and at that time the whole world will be engulfed in fire. Everything on Earth will be burned down literally. Nothing is wrong with the second coming but burning of the whole world is new to me. Judgement day I believe.

But I’d be crazy to the bone if I see Felix Manalo appears instead of Jesus Christ. That would scare the hell out of me. At least hell will be out of me and only heaven will be left in me. That is okay for me.

One thing that is bothersome is the thought of a separation or segregation of all INC’s membership to one side and the rest of us non-INC members on one side to be cast into hell…this could be one hell of a scary movie if filmed…there will be no more ifs or buts allowed for non-INC members for it was already pre-declared by INC – that no one outside INC will be saved. So regardless what we do from here on (fast/present/future) are useless unless we all join INC.

If indeed Felix is the messiah and on his second coming, then he could say “I already told you… I am Jesus and the fifth angel as well…when I was still around you don’t want to believe and join me…so sorry na lang dahil inalis ko na sa iglesia Katolika ang kaligtasan at inilipat ko na sa bago kong simbahan, kaya pasensyahan na lang tayo.”

Nakakatakot diba?

But let me clarify a little bit more. If Felix was the messiah then since he already came first as Jesus then when he was born it was the second coming so why was there no judgement day and why didn’t Earth burn down? Therefor what is to come is a Third Coming not second coming. Isn’t this whole thing a complete nonsense?

So let’s go deeper a little bit more. If to INC Jesus was just a man who will be sent again by God to do the final judgement, then we should all pray harder to God the Father not to send Felix Christ but God the Father himself to come down to judge us at least we Catholics will have a chance. There is a good chance God the Father will listen to us but not with Felix Christ as he already declared that salvation will only be limited to members of INC only. Actually with Felix as Christ the second judgement is not necessary anymore since non-INC is already condemned and pre-judged to burn in hell.

The Catholic Church would never do this kind of thing as the teachings in our church everyone who believes in Jesus Christ and obeys HIS commandments may be saved even one is non-Catholic.

So salvation is for all mankind. Jesus once said to HIS Apostles when one of them call Jesus’ attention saying “Master those group of people have been talking about you, shall we stop them? And Jesus replied, if they are talking about me let them be as they are for me.” All religion for Christ must respect each other instead of lambasting and criticizing each other. As this offends God. This kind of situation is the devil’s game.

Let us go back to Felix Manalo. Now let me sight some connections here and see if Felix proclamations were justified. Since Felix to INC was the messiah, he have to make sure that the people believe that Jesus was just a man so that it will confirm his claim that he is the true messiah of our time as declared by him on their bible and pasugo. That him being a man and Christ as well, As Felix Christ, he founded the the church and named Iglesia Ni Cristo. That is why Felix has to be the messiah and Cristo at the same time. Therefore the name Iglesia Ni Cristo is correct and he can claim INC as his true church or Church of Christ. Clever yeah? But can it be considered as the true church of God? I cannot say so.

INC has ordered and commanded every member to believe in all their doctrines and it is absolute with no exception that every member must adhere to the strict rule of “Complete Obedience” to every thing that INC says so.

But wait a second here, let’s not jump easily yet into believing in their concept. Let’s back off a little bit to another Pasugo’s declaration that Felix Manalo was the fifth angel – a messenger of God and the last one. Isn’t this is hilarious? If Felix was the fifth angel and so Jesus – both of them being the messiah as well as the fifth angel too that both of them was just a messenger. So they are one and the same.

Grabe! Nakakaloka! Pardon these expressions. They are just my expression when I am getting so confused and crazy. I am describing here my mixed feelings.

So in heaven Jesus will be position among the angels not seated at the right side of the Father. And here it becomes the more confusing. We will be all crazy cats if we see Felix Manalo sitting at the right side of the Father smiling and silently sending us his thoughts …..”I told you….yet you won’t believe me….hehehehe”. My oh my…if this is a dream I hope I wake up soon before this ends up in a nightmare.

Grabe, nakakaloka talaga! Ops sori…

If Felix (the messiah) is the God whom the Jews have been waiting for up to now and is found seated at the right hand side of the Father, then Felix kept it a secret to himself that the Trinity is true that he is one of them. He did not declare so while he was still alive for no one will believe him that he was the Alpha and the Omega born in the Philippines in the Far East just like when the Jews did not believe that Jesus was the messiah.

So when Jesus was born as Felix the messiah, then Jesus or Felix changed the strategy by denying there is TRINITY otherwise he Felix could be crucified again if he pushed the issue. He just contend that he is the messiah and an angel messenger at the same time so at least there will be no crucifixion. But Felix solved that problem right away by copying and imposing ISLAM’s rule of complete submission which he changed to Complete Obedience – clever strategy. But wait a minute, isn’t the prophesy that the messiah is to redeem mankind from original sin thru death and resurrection?

So when Felix went into 3 days seclusion, he died and resurrected after 3 days when he came out of his room. So how did he died? Where were the apostles? The Blessed Mother? The Roman soldiers? The cross? Was there a miracle?

All along he planned carefully what he wanted to do be becoming self-proclaimed messiah as man to check and join several denominations to find out which church is following his teachings to the letter or not. As a true messiah, he could do everything in flat one second or less. So as man-messiah, he had to imitate what Jesus actually did by becoming a man joining several denominations including the Seventh Day Adventist.

The difference between Jesus and Felix were Jesus was accused of blasphemy and for claiming as the messiah leading to HIS crucifixion while Felix was accused for raping a hapless maiden whose case did not materialize but died down when he corrupted the woman in exchange for becoming a deaconess…vanity really works wonders.

Now let’s continue – The INC membership will never believe in the TRINITY as instructed unless the Manalos declared it otherwise on their Pasugo. So if there is no Holy Spirit, the word Father is correct and that Felix is the Son.

Here is additional twist. Felix Manalo’s biological mother would then become the rightful Mother of God and Mary will no longer holds the title of Blessed Mary the Mother of God. WOW! Are we getting the picture correctly now?

Don’t worry if you are getting confused so am I. I am not only getting confused but crazy as well.

Okay, let’s move on. So there is no Trinity but can we call it Double-ity or Two-lity for 2 Gods in One. Oh my! Now I am really getting weirdo. I should drink coffee to relax my mind. Oh yeah I am not using my heart right now but I am using my brain to rationalize everything that INC teaches…word for word ever careful to avoid misinterpreting.

So since Felix’s biological mother was the one true Mother of God Son (Felix), then INC today must publish a new Pasugo declaring this new doctrine for all members to believe and obey.

Felix couldn’t be canonized though since he was a messiah but Erano could be declared as Saint as well as he was the second pope of the INC but not possible since only Catholics have saints.

Oh let me add as well that Felix was also the Rock in our time. I wonder if INC will declare this too.

So my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, what shall we do now? Shall we denounce our own faith and join the Iglesia Ni Cristo (the true church of Christ este ni Manalo) to be saved as INC already declared that there is no salvation outside INC.

I almost forgot, I believe I have read an article or trend or heard on one of the videos that INC claimed they are mentioned in the bible as the 144,000 dressed in white that is found on the Book of Revelation. But wait a minute, I thought they claimed that there is about 10 millions INC membership worldwide right now. So what would have happened to the rest since only 144 K is the final head count? Are they lost? If so then it is not true that salvation is only and limited for all INC’s membership only. So the rest of the 10 millions were grossly misled.

INC believe Jesus as the mediator so is INC prays to Felix to mediate for them? Or to Poong Hesucristo?

So how many errors have we found so far.

I claimed the above is only a product of my own confused imagination after listening to INC’s videos and reading articles, blog trends and postings written by INC themselves.

Don’t worry I will have more crazy ideas to share here…as the more I listened to their videos or read their articles and views the more I get crazy and confused.

My next topic probably would be more of the INC’s version of ISIAH 43:5 which the wordings are as follows: “From the Far East will I bring your offspring, and from the Far West I will gather you…”

The basis and foundation of the Iglesia ni Cristo is the word “FAR” which was added to the words East and West which they translated as Far East as Philippines and Far West as the USA including Hawaii. This one good topic to discuss.

Until then…
God Bless and Peace Be With You All!

PS – I know the trend was about INC’s logo but since the discussion had evolved to various topics I might as well just continue. I am a new comer here so I missed the times when there were a lot of postings and exchanges of thoughts and views. I just wish that INC members get a chance to read my postings here with the hope that the pick up a seed of humility and spiritual understanding of who Jesus and the Trinity are about.

WHO FOUNDED the IGLESIA NI CRISTO?

Thanks Manila Bulletin for the straightforward facts! [emphasis mine]

"Today, INC membership includes at least 110 nationalities. Its phenomenal growth and expansion has been attributed to the zeal of its founder, Ka Felix Y. Manalo, his son, the Brother Eraño G. Manalo, and the current INC Executive Minister Brother Eduardo V. Manalo."

Iglesia ni Cristo is a Masonic Church. It's in its Logo says an American blogger

The INC™'s logo can't escape an American blogger Mary Tomaselli's judgment that it is indeed a MASONIC church.  Here is what she's thinking about the Iglesia ni Cristo® church she found at Forest Hills, NY. [Read also my earlier post What's in the INC logo?]

I was driving through Forest Hills, N.Y. a neighborhood near me when I came upon the church you see in the photo above. It was huge and very imposing, a structure I had never seen before. The architecture was strange and modern-looking. It turned out to be the Iglesia Ni Christo, a church I'd never heard of.

That this church had been built in Forest Hills was unusual, I thought, but in my research I found out that 61.3% of New York City's total Filipino population live in Queens of which Forest Hills is one neighborhood. When I went to Wikipedia I found a photo of the Eglesia Ni Cristo church in Quezon City, The Philippines. Here it is:

If you click on the Wikipedia link above you'll see the architectural details of the Forest Hills church are VERY similar to the church in Quezon City.

Finally I want to show you the logo of the church which sits boldly on the front of the church as it faces the street.

What I noticed in particular was the combination of Christian and Masonic symbols. Apparently Felix Manalo, the church's messenger from God, was a freemason. I hope you liked the additional information attached to the photos I took of the Iglesia Ni Cristo church. They aren't touched up in any way.

Did Pope Francis really say OK for gays?

Anti-Catholics out there especially the notorious anti-Catholic and anti-Christ sect from the Philippines-- the Iglesia ni Cristo®-- would rejoiced with the news that distorted what Pope Francis said about homosexuals.

"The Bible and the Catholic Church have never taught that it is a “sin” to be homosexual."  Thanks Fr. Jonathan Morris from  FOXNEWS!

What Pope Francis really said about gays -- and no, it's not new

Pope Francis doesn’t do interviews. Or at least that’s what we thought. He said that about himself just one week ago on the way to Rio de Janeiro for World Youth Day.

Then World Youth Day happened. And it happened in a big way.

According to official reports from City Hall, 3.2 million young people gathered on Copacabana Beach to see him, pray with him, and hear his proposal about the meaning of life.

His closing message to them was simple: Go back to your homes, and serve others without fear.

Hours later, perhaps taking to heart his own closing message about fearless service, Pope Francis offered an 80 minute, unscripted question-and-answer session with the international press corps.

In its entirely, the press conference on the pope’s plane traveling from Brazil back to the Vatican was fascinating. (For more, please look at my Twitter reports.)

But, unfortunately, if you were reading the headlines from some media outlets, you would have learned just one thing. As the Huffington Post put it: “Breakthrough: Pope OK with Gays.”

This is the worst coverage of a religious story I have seen to date.

Let’s begin with the fact that the pope has always been “OK” with homosexuals. In fact, by the demands of his own religion he is required to be much more than just “OK.” The Christian faith teaches that every person is endowed by God with an inviolable dignity and therefore deserves our unconditional respect and love.

A section of an Associated Press report also got the story very wrong. Summarizing the pope’s comments on homosexuals in the priesthood, the AP reported: “Francis was much more conciliatory [than Pope Benedict], saying gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten.”

Pope Francis didn’t say that, and the report is wrong on so many levels.

First of all, it suggests that being gay itself, is a sin. What Pope Francis really said, in response to a reporter’s question about homosexual priests who are living a celibate life was this: “If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?”

Pope Francis simply and compassionately reiterated Biblical teaching. The Bible and the Catholic Church have never taught that it is a “sin” to be homosexual. They teach it is a sin to have homosexual sex because it goes against the laws of God’s nature, specifically his plan for human sexuality.

When Pope Francis says “who am I to judge” he is saying—and I think we need to hear more of this from religious leaders—that active homosexuals deserve the same kindness, love, and mercy that all of us sinners would hope to receive from God and from others.

We don’t make judgments about anyone’s personal worth—God has already done that when he created us out of love.

I would hope next time Pope Francis offers to meet with the press, they would take to heart his message about fearless service and report to their readers what he actually said, rather than what they wish they had heard.

So stop circulating a distorted news and get the facts straight from the source!

FACTS: What you should know about the Iglesia ni Cristo

MANILA, Philippines (Rappler) – This day in 1914, the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) was officially registered by Felix Manalo, a Catholic who became dissatisfied with theological teachings he grew up with.

Manalo came up with new-found doctrines that have become the foundation of a new church which he initially established in Sta Ana, Manila.

From its humble beginnings in Manila, the INC has gained a nationwide, and even worldwide, following.

After 99 years, INC has remained alive, and has become a significant part of history. Its large following has become a vital part of the country’s social and political life through the years.

It has been known to lobby for government posts for members of its church. Among its members who were appointed to various posts are Land Transportation Office chief Virginia Torres, former Justice secretaries Serafin Cuevas and Artemio Tuquero, former Court of Appeals Justice Nicolas Lapeña Jr, former National Bureau of Investigation chiefs Reynaldo Wycoco and Magtanggol Gatdula, and former Philippine National Police chief Edgardo Aglipay.

Political leaders and even presidential aspirants have sought audiences with the Manalos, seeking their endorsement.

Debate over whether the INC has remained influential continues, but most political strategists prefer to err on the side of caution, still opting to seek the blessing of the INC head.

The group is now headed by the founder’s grandson, Eduardo Manalo– the 3rd person to have become the groups’ leader.

Do you know this man?  Perhaps not!  He is the sole DESIGNER of Iglesia ni Cristo® chapels we find all around the Philippines.

His name is CARLOS A. SANTOS-VIOLA, a devout Catholic! Says Wikipedia:

"Carlos was a lifelong devout Roman Catholic. He ministered for the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Quezon City and was frequently invited to join the INC but repeatedly denied the invitations due to ideological differences. He also taught architecture at the college where he graduated, and helped found the Philippine Institute of Architects in 1938."

Pope Francis' Unaltered Remarks on Alleged Gay Lobby within Vatican

Before anyone jumps into conclusion that Pope Francis gave the 'go signal' to homosexual lifestyle as he was badly misquoted in the money-hungry press business, here's an unaltered transcript of what he really said on that interview.  Thanks to Pauline.org:

The Question to Pope Francis from Ilse, a journalist on the Papal flight

Ilse: I would like to ask permission to pose a rather delicate question. Another image that went around the world is that of Monsignor Ricca and the news about his personal life. I would like to know, your Holiness, what will be done about this question. How should one deal with this question and how does your Holiness wish to deal with the whole question of the gay lobby?

The Pope’s Answer

[Pope Francis's response:] Regarding the matter of Monsignor Ricca, I did what Canon Law required and did the required investigation. And from the investigation, we did not find anything corresponding to the accusations against him. We found none of that. That is the answer.

But I would like to add one more thing to this: I see that so many times in the Church, apart from this case and also in this case, one looks for the "sins of youth," for example, is it not thus? And then these things are published. These things are not crimes. The crimes are something else: child abuse is a crime.

But sins, if a person, or secular priest or a nun, has committed a sin and then that person experienced conversion, the Lord forgives and when the Lord forgives, the Lord forgets and this is very important for our lives.

When we go to confession and we truly say “I have sinned in this matter,” the Lord forgets and we do not have the right to not forget because we run the risk that the Lord will not forget our sins, eh? This is a danger. This is what is important: a theology of sin.

So many times I think of St. Peter: he committed one of the worst sins denying Christ. And with this sin they made him Pope. We must think about fact often.

But returning to your question more concretely: in this case [Ricca] I did the required investigation and we found nothing. That is the first question.

Then you spoke of the gay lobby. Agh… so much is written about the gay lobby. I have yet to find on a Vatican identity card the word gay. They say there are some gay people here. I think that when we encounter a gay person, we must make the distinction between the fact of a person being gay and the fact of a lobby, because lobbies are not good. They are bad. If a person is gay and seeks the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge that person? The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains this point beautifully but says, wait a moment, how does it say, it says, these persons must never be marginalized and “they must be integrated into society.”

The problem is not that one has this tendency; no, we must be brothers, this is the first matter. There is another problem, another one: the problem is to form a lobby of those who have this tendency, a lobby of the greedy people, a lobby of politicians, a lobby of Masons, so many lobbies. This is the most serious problem for me. And thank you so much for doing this question. Thank you very much!

Original transcript in Italian

No, i peccati.

Grazie tante!

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

THREAT from the Iglesia ni Cristo®?

I received one comment, subtle yet it's threatening. Could be a joke but could be a stern warning. Considering how members of the Iglesia ni Cristo would do anything, even extreme violent and un-Christian way to terminate those whom they see as attacking Manalo and his INC™.

From INC™ Anonymous August 1, 2013 at 3:25 AM
Tsk tsk, playing safesi fafa. ha ha ha. Tuwang tuwa tuloy mga bakla.[Surprise, you're still alive. ha ha ha. The Pope said, don't blame gays. What's that? Because your priests are gays. ha ha ha.  He should have advised, don't do what gays do. Tsk, tsk, tsk, playing safesi (sic) fafa. ha ha ha. Now gays are rejoicing.]
I won't go pathetic with this message but if anything happens to me (violently) considering how they're so violent when cornered (you can read here, here), how they inherited bad attitudes, I'd say blame it to the Iglesia ni Cristo® for not chastising their violent members, because what I know is that I don't have natural enemies.

Pray for all Filipino CATHOLIC DEFENDERS out there who are roundly threatened by members of this cult. May God have mercy on their souls.  Holy Mary, pray for us and keep us safe from the enemies of your beloved Son, Jesus our Lord, Savior and our God. Amen!

Yung magdarayang manggagawa. Hindi iyong kapatid. Yung kapatid, magkamali man, eh hindi sinadya. YUNG MINISTRO, SINASADYA.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, (CNA/EWTN News).- Catholics in the town of Mussafah in the United Arab Emirates have begun construction on a new church dedicated to St. Paul.

Bishop Paul Hinder, O.F.M., the Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia, blessed the church’s foundation stone on June 29 in the presence of the local Catholic community, including priests and religious missionaries .

“God dwells in each person ... and with faith and love (is) gathering us together in this new church,” Bishop Hinder said.

He said he hoped the love of Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit will enable the “speedy” completion of the church, expected to be finished in two years.

Mussafah is an industrial town southwest of the capital city Abu Dhabi.

There are about 3,500 Catholic families and about 15,000 Catholic laborers around Abu Dhabi. Many are guest workers from Africa, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and the Philippines, but some are local Arabs, George Puthussery, press officer for the Abu Dhabi-based Vicariate of Southern Arabia, told CNA.

In 2011, the local government of Abu Dhabi granted a land area of 1.1 acres for the construction of the parish church.

St. Paul’s Church would be the second parish of the Abu Dhabi area. For almost fifty years, St. Joseph’s Cathedral has been the only church for Catholics near Abu Dhabi.

People travel 23 miles from Mussafah to attend to religious services at
St Joseph’s Cathedral.

Puthussery said the new church will make it “easy” for working residents of the area to attend church.

The Vicariate of Southern Arabia covers the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Yemen, where the population s primarily Muslim. Eighteen Masses are celebrated in the vicariate each Sunday in various languages. There are 46 priests serving about seven million Catholics in the vicariate.

A new church recently opened in the United Arab Emirates.

In June, Cardinal Fernando Filoni, head of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, consecrated St. Anthony of Padua Church in the northeastern town of Jazirat Al Hamra on the Persian Gulf.

The Holy See and the United Arab Emirates established full diplomatic relations in 2007.

Never has a pope been so clear and courageous in unveiling the roots of violence in Islam, before Benedict XVI. And not afterward, either. Two obligatory rereadings, to decipher the Egyptian crisis

by Sandro Magister

ROME, August 20, 2013– In a few days many dozens of churches, convents, homes of Christians in Egypt have been attacked or burned. A tragedy within the tragedy, after the coup d'état that has plunged the nation of the Nile into a civil war with hundreds if not thousands of victims.

In covering the news of the numerous appeals for the cessation of violence, “L'Osservatore Romano” of August 18 did not, however, succeed in listing among these invocations even one from the Muslim world.

This public silence of the Islamic spiritual guides does not come as a surprise. It accompanies almost every act of political violence that sees Muslims in action, in one or another region of the globe.

It is a silence that is not explained by calculations of timeliness alone, or by the fear of retaliation. Nor by the fact alone that today in Egypt the greatest clash is between opposing Muslim factions, both of them determined to assert with force the precepts of Islam: because it is not only the Muslim Brotherhood of the deposed president Mohamed Morsi that has a conception of the political struggle as jihad, as holy war, but this is also held by its adversary, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, the general placed at the head of the armed forces by Morsi himself because he was believed to be the most faithful Islamist of all.

In order to understand the ultimate root of the silence of Muslim spiritual leaders in the face of the explosion of violence of Islamic inspiration, one need do just one simple thing. It is enough to reread the initial part of the lecture given by Benedict XVI on September 12, 2006 in the aula magna of the University of Regensburg.

The aggressive actions with which Muslim men and groups reacted to this lecture were the tragic confirmation of the correctness of the theses presented by pope Joseph Ratzinger. According to whom violence associated with faith is the inevitable product of the fragile connection between faith and reason in Muslim doctrine.

No pope before Benedict XVI had ever had the clarity of vision and courage to express such a blunt judgment of Islam, nor to formulate with such rigor the difference between Islam and Christianity.

Within the Catholic Church Benedict XVI was highly criticized for having dared so much. He was accused of having destroyed the “dialogue” with the Muslim world.

In reality, just two months after Regensburg pope Ratzinger recollected himself in silent prayer in the Blue Mosque of Istanbul. And he was able to perform this gesture - otherwise incomprehensible - precisely because he had stated clearly what was his thought in this regard.

And it was precisely from the lecture in Regensburg that there came to life that sprout of Islamic-Christian dialogue that found its expression in the “letter of the 138 scholars” written to the pope by Muslim representatives of various orientation.

Not only that. Also in that autumn of 2006, during his voyage to Turkey, Benedict XVI said clearly to the Muslim world that it was facing the same challenge that Christianity had already faced and overcome positively: that of “welcoming the true achievements of the Enlightenment, human rights and especially the freedom of faith and its exercise.”

Here as well, no pope had ever gone so far before Benedict XVI. Nor afterward. Even today.

To the civil war that is inflaming Egypt Pope Francis dedicated these words, after the Angelus on the feast of the Assumption:

"Unfortunately sorrowful news is arriving from Egypt. I wish to pledge my prayers for all of the victims and their relatives, for the wounded and for those who suffer. Let us pray together for peace, dialogue, reconciliation in that dear land and in the whole world.”

And three days later, at the Angelus of Sunday, August 18, he may have alluded to it:

"The Gospel does not authorize in any way the use of force to spread the faith. It is precisely the contrary: the true force of the Christian is the force of truth and love, which involves renouncing all violence. Faith and violence are incompatible.”

But let us return to the Ratzinger of 2006 and to those memorable words of his on Islam, which are also decisive for understanding the Egyptian tragedy.

The following is what he said in the lecture of Regensburg on September 12 and how he commented - after he had returned to Rome - on his voyage to Turkey that same autumn.

1. IN REGENSBURG

[…] I read the edition by Professor Theodore Khoury (Münster) of part of the dialogue carried on - perhaps in 1391 in the winter barracks near Ankara - by the erudite Byzantine emperor Manuel II Paleologus and an educated Persian on the subject of Christianity and Islam, and the truth of both. […]

In the seventh conversation ("dialexis" - controversy) edited by Professor Khoury, the emperor touches on the theme of the holy war. The emperor must have known that surah 2, 256 reads: "There is no compulsion in religion". According to some of the experts, this is probably one of the suras of the early period, when Mohammed was still powerless and under threat. But naturally the emperor also knew the instructions, developed later and recorded in the Qur'an, concerning holy war.

Without descending to details, such as the difference in treatment accorded to those who have the "Book" and the "infidels", he addresses his interlocutor with a startling brusqueness, a brusqueness that we find unacceptable, on the central question about the relationship between religion and violence in general, saying: "Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached. The emperor, after having expressed himself so forcefully, goes on to explain in detail the reasons why spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable. Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul. "God", he says, "is not pleased by blood - and not acting reasonably ('sun logo') is contrary to God's nature. Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats... To convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death...".

The decisive statement in this argument against violent conversion is this: not to act in accordance with reason is contrary to God's nature. The editor, Theodore Khoury, observes: For the emperor, as a Byzantine shaped by Greek philosophy, this statement is self-evident. But for Muslim teaching, God is absolutely transcendent. His will is not bound up with any of our categories, even that of rationality. Here Khoury quotes a work of the noted French Islamist R. Arnaldez, who points out that Ibn Hazm went so far as to state that God is not bound even by his own word, and that nothing would oblige him to reveal the truth to us. Were it God's will, we would even have to practise idolatry.

At this point, as far as understanding of God and thus the concrete practice of religion is concerned, we are faced with an unavoidable dilemma. Is the conviction that acting unreasonably contradicts God's nature merely a Greek idea, or is it always and intrinsically true? I believe that here we can see the profound harmony between what is Greek in the best sense of the word and the biblical understanding of faith in God.

Modifying the first verse of the Book of Genesis, the first verse of the whole Bible, John began the prologue of his Gospel with the words: "In the beginning was the logos". This is the very word used by the emperor: God acts, "sun logo", with logos. Logos means both reason and word - a reason which is creative and capable of self-communication, precisely as reason. John thus spoke the final word on the biblical concept of God, and in this word all the often toilsome and tortuous threads of biblical faith find their culmination and synthesis. In the beginning was the logos, and the logos is God […]

2. AFTER RETURNING FROM TURKEY

[…] In a dialogue to be intensified with Islam, we must bear in mind the fact that the Muslim world today is finding itself faced with an urgent task. This task is very similar to the one that has been imposed upon Christians since the Enlightenment, and to which the Second Vatican Council, as the fruit of long and difficult research, found real solutions for the Catholic Church. […]

On the one hand, one must counter a dictatorship of positivist reason that excludes God from the life of the community and from public organizations, thereby depriving man of his specific criteria of judgment.

On the other, one must welcome the true conquests of the Enlightenment, human rights and especially the freedom of faith and its practice, and recognize these also as being essential elements for the authenticity of religion. As in the Christian community, where there has been a long search to find the correct position of faith in relation to such beliefs - a search that will certainly never be concluded once and for all -, so also the Islamic world with its own tradition faces the immense task of finding the appropriate solutions in this regard.

The content of the dialogue between Christians and Muslims will be at this time especially one of meeting each other in this commitment to find the right solutions. We Christians feel in solidarity with all those who, precisely on the basis of their religious conviction as Muslims, work to oppose violence and for the synergy between faith and reason, between religion and freedom.
